Lowell Thomas “Tommy” Hypes, age 78, of Fairlawn died, Friday, Dec. 30, 2016, at New River Valley Medical Center. He was born in Montgomery County on June 18, 1938 to the late Anah C. and Deany Songer Hypes.
Tommy was a veteran of the United States Army and retired as First Sergeant. He was also retired from the federal government having worked at the Radford Army Ammunition Plant. He owned and operated Tommy’s Books for many years, and was an avid hunter and fisherman.
He is survived by his son, Wendell Lee Hypes, longtime friend and companion, Deloris Mills, three special cousins, Doug Songer, Fred Walters, Wayne Hypes, and many other cousins, relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, Jan. 4, at 2 p.m. in the McCoy Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Gary Styke officiating. Interment will follow in the Roselawn Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 12-2 p.m. Wednesday afternoon at the McCoy Funeral Home 150 Country Club Dr. SW, Blacksburg.
