Donald Matthew Parcell passed away at his home very peacefully on Thursday, Feb. 2, 2017. He was born Oct. 5, 1945 in Lamar, West Virginia.
His parents were Carl Weldon and Geneva Robertson Parcell who predeceased him. He was also predeceased by a brother, Carl Clegg Parcell, and a sister, Thelma Parcell Gilmore.
Leaving to cherish the special and fond memories of him are his wife of 51 years, Shirley Ann Habernigg Parcell; his son, Mark Damon Parcell and wife, Sheri; his daughter, Melissa Parcell Hensel and husband, LJ; grandchildren, Joshua Parcell of Charlotte, North Carolina, Addie Jo Parcell of Blacksburg, Makayla Dayne Brown of Buena Vista; Dallen Matthew, Brody Cale, and Laken Adare Hensel of Christiansburg and his loyal and beloved furry friend, Snickers; brother, Charles Parcell of Rock Hill, South Carolina; sisters, Janice Roark of Christiansburg, Wanda Rhodes and husband, Sanford of Pembroke, Ethel Hare of Staffordsville, Sandra Moser of Wytheville and Debra Parcell of Goochland; and special niece, Sabrina Roark.
Don was a proud graduate of the Class of 1964 Giles High School, a veteran of the United States Air Force and worked at Celanese Corp. For 18 years, he served as a police officer for the Towns of Blacksburg and Christiansburg. He proudly worked for Clinton’s Transfer and Storage as an independent operator and his last employer, Foxguard Solutions.
Funeral services were conducted Feb. 6, 2017 at 11 a.m. in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Porter Street, in Blacksburg.
