Climbing event March 18
Crimper’s Climbing Gym, Christiansburg, is holding its fourth annual Allez Clibing Competition, Saturday, March 18. Youth competition will be from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. and adult will be from 3-6 p.m.
Allez is a red point style roped climbing competition with both top-rope climbing and lead climbing, using a rope and harnesses and working with a belayer. It is sanctioned by USA Climbing, the national sanctioning organization for competitive climbing.
“For the first time at Allez, both USAC sanctioned Youth and collegiate competitions will take place,” said Crimper’s John H. Johnson.
“Enrollment in the Youth competition sold out quickly with over 50 competitors,” he said, “but the Collegiate and non-sanctioned citizens are still accepting entrants.”
In the red-point style, those who compete may try to climb a route as many times as they want in the course of three-hour competition. Each competitor’s highest point climbs will be added together for the final score.
Those who qualify in this event earn points in the USA Climbing, which rank them for other competitions.
Crimper’s will award trophies in all categories. For more information, call 251-3040.

It is hoped that individuals will come anytime during the 10-hour period to swim/water walk and will collectively complete 10 miles.
