Christiansburg professional photographer Charlie Whitescarver is the March Artist in Residence at the Christiansburg Library. On Sunday at 1:30 p.m. he is giving a free presentation entitled “Why the odds are against you getting a good photograph.”
Whitescarver hopes the presentation will help people understand the challenges of taking good photographs and gain an appreciation for the chemistry, technology and engineering that has brought photography to more people than ever.
Whitescarver picked up photography as a hobby while serving in the military in Germany in the early 1970s. In 1979, he opened PFS Photofinishing with two partners in Radford. Mike Vordo still operates PFS Photofinishing, now located in Christiansburg. Whitescarver has written for Shutterbug magazine and has been published in area newspapers and magazines.
“Everyone deserves a good photograph” is his business motto. He especially enjoys photographing people, families, and their pets. His clients also include many businesses in the New River Valley. He provides photography services and social media management for select clients. He also offers personal photography instruction as he likes to help others enjoy photography. The presentation is free.
