Blacksburg United Methodist’s consignment sale April 1
Blacksburg United Methodist Church will hold its semi-annual consignment sale of children’s items at the Christian Life Center, at 706 Harding Avenue in Blacksburg, on April 1 from 9 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.
Families will be able to get great deals on gently used kids’ clothes and shoes, toys, books, games, movies, baby gear and accessories, sports equipment, maternity clothing and more. Many items are like-new (some are even brand-new).
Some items will be half-price between 12:30 and 1:30 pm but you will want to shop early for the best selection. Proceeds will benefit local charities.
American Legion meeting April 6
The American Legion, Harvey-Howe-Carper Post 30 will meet at 7 p.m. April 6 at the VFW Post Home on 102 Watts St. in Radford.

Price’s Fork ES and Kiwanis Club stew sale on April 8
Price’s Fork Elementary School and the Montgomery County Kiwanis Club are sponsoring a Brunswick stew sale on April 8, at Price’s Fork Elementary School. Stew will be available from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. for $8.00 per quart.
Stew can be purchased at the door or it can be pre-ordered by contacting Kiwanian Jerry Jones at 552-8296 or gmjones@vt.edu, or other club members.
Proceeds will benefit the Fine Arts Program at PFES and children and youth programs sponsored by Kiwanis.
Sons of Confederate Veterans meeting April 11

Agency on Aging offers free self-management workshop
During a free six-week workshop, participants will learn a variety of self-management skills to help put “life back in your life” so that they can maintain and/or increase their daily activities.
Workshops are designed for adults of any age who want to take charge of their ongoing health problems and get relief from their pain, fatigue and other symptoms.
The New River Valley Agency on Aging and St. Paul’s Methodist Church in Christiansburg are partnering to provide this workshop series for the community at large. Materials and refreshments are provided.
The workshop series will be held at St. Paul’s Methodist Church Fellowship Hall on Tuesdays beginning April 18 from 10 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. Participants have the opportunity to win gift cards.

RSVP scholarship deadline April 21
Applications for scholarships given by the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program of Montgomery County and Radford are due by April 21. Two $1,000 scholarships will be awarded to outstanding students in the Montgomery County and City of Radford school systems who plan to pursue studies in a human services or human medical field.

Racial injustice workshop to be held April 22
This workshop—in collaboration with the Employment/Income Gap Issue Group of the Dialogue on Race—will address racial disparities in employment opportunities nationally and in Montgomery County. The event will be held from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. at The Inn at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg.
Blacksburg Library to hold boating safety course May 13
Blacksburg Library will be hosting a state boating safety course from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. May 13.
Beginning July 1, 2016, all PWC operators age 14 and older and all motorboat operators regardless of age need to take a boating safety course. No person under the age of 14 may operate a PWC.
Instruction and materials are free of charge. Children 12 and under must be accompanied by an adult. Bring a pencil, a highlighter and lunch.
