Roscoe Elliott “Sonny” Kirk, Jr. of Blacksburg, died at home Thursday evening in the care of Carilion Home Hospice and with his daughter at his side.
Ross was born on July 27, 1933 in Price’s Fork to Roscoe Elliott Kirk and Florence Alene Kirk.
Left to cherish his memory are Daughter Lori Anne Kirk, Son Michael E. Kirk and husband Jeffrey, Sister Carol Crawford and husband Ben; Sister-In-Law Jeanne Hoffman, Brother-in-law William “Bill” Torrisi; grandsons Victor A. Sheppard, Jr. and wife Jennifer, Christopher W. Sheppard and wife Mina, and Raymond Forte and wife Donna; great grandsons Owen C. Sheppard, Isaac Sheppard, and Vincent Cervone; Great Granddaughter Lydia Forte; and many more nieces, nephews, extended family members, neighbors and friends who have been so tremendously supportive and loving.
He was a devoted husband, loving father, United States Air Force Veteran, and dear friend to many. He is an alumnus of both Blacksburg High School and Virginia Tech. He spent decades in volunteer service with St Michael Lutheran Church, the Boy Scouts of America as a Scoutmaster for troop 706 at St. Mary’s and District Executive for Moneton District, receiving the Woodbadge and the Order of The Arrow.
The family will receive guests from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday at the McCoy Funeral Home located at 150 Country Club Drive Blacksburg. The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at St. Michael Lutheran Church located at 2308 Merrimac Road, Blacksburg.
Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens located at 2880 N Franklin St. Christiansburg.
