Arlene P. Houchins, 88, of Christiansburg passed away Wednesday, April 26, 2017, at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital, after a brief illness.
She was born in Cleveland, Ohio, on July 7, 1928 to the late Wade and Annie Peters. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Jabe Houchins, five brothers, Bob, Hampton, Everett, Wade Jr., and Franklin Peters and two sisters Clara Kelley and Jenny Holly also preceded her in death. Arlene is survived by her daughter Catherine Houchins and partner Joanna, and her daughter Sonora Pauley and husband Dana. She is also survived by the joys of life, her two grandsons, Stephen Pauley and wife Holly, and Christopher Pauley and girlfriend Jessica. She is survived by three sisters, Mary Ann Dix of Roanoke and Loretta Julian and Shirley Jeffers and husband, Cecil of Elizabethton, TN., and one brother, Bobby Peters of Youngsville, N.C., numerous nieces, nephews and special friends also survive.
Arlene was a long-time employee at Bakers Supermarket in Cambria and is remembered for her friendly personality and caring spirit. Arlene was a faithful member of Cambria Baptist Church for over 70 years where she taught Sunday School classes and sang in the choir. A funeral service and celebration of her life will be held at 2 p.m. today at Cambria Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Sunset Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the church from noon until just prior to the service.
