JoAnn Metzger Michaels, 77, of Blacksburg died, April 23, 2017 at Kroontje Health Care Center at Warm Hearth Village, Blacksburg. She was born in St. Petersburg, FL on Sept. 8, 1939 to the late John E. Metzger and Betty Hornbaker Metzger.
JoAnn graduated from Waynesville High School in North Carolina, and Virginia Intermont College in Bristol.
She married James W. Michaels, Jr., of Durham, North Carolina in 1968. JoAnn and her husband were both employed by Virginia Tech from 1975 until they retired. During most of that time JoAnn was engaged in quarter-horse showing, dog showing, and teaching dog obedience classes.
She is survived by her husband, James W. Michaels, Jr., of Blacksburg, VA, and first cousin, Dr. C. Robert Metzger (wife, Gwen) of Cummings, GA.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, May 4, 2017 from 4-6 p.m. at the McCoy Funeral Home, 150 Country Club Dr. S.W. Blacksburg, VA.
