Southgate Drive and Huckleberry Trail closures
Work will begin on repainting the Huckleberry Trail Bridge over Southgate Drive on June 1 and is scheduled to run through June 23.
Southgate Drive will be closed to through traffic during this time. The Huckleberry Trail will also be closed immediately to the north and south of the bridge abutments.
Crews will clean, prime and repaint the bridge as necessary maintenance to maintain the bridge in good working order. The wood decking will be removed as part of the re-painting process.
Residents of Southgate Drive will be allowed to drive to and from their homes. Residents on the east side of the bridge may use Airport Road and Edgewood Drive to access their homes. Residents on the west side of the bridge may use Southgate Drive on the Virginia Tech Campus or Research Center Drive to access their homes.
We apologize for any inconvenience.
Please contact Joshua Middleton, Town Engineer, at 443-1300 or at jmiddleton@blacksburg.gov with any questions.
In addition, Southgate Drive (Rte. 314) will be closed on Tuesday, May 30 at noon from the Route 460 intersection to Beamer Way and between the lower entrance to the Veterinarian School on Duck Pond Drive and Southgate Drive, for a period of two weeks (all day) until June 12.
This closure will be in place for numerous operations (i.e. drainage, curb and gutter, cut/fill, and roundabout apron) in order to complete the necessary work for the tie-in to the new Southgate Drive and existing Duck Pond Drive.
