CHRISTIANSBURG–Police took a man into custody following a two-hour standoff at a residence in Christiansburg early Thursday afternoon.
The incident occurred when Montgomery Count Sheriff’s deputies went to a residence on Pine Oak Drive to serve a civil notification, and the individual being served exited to his back porch, where he started threatening to harm himself and had a handgun in his possession.
The event lasted from about 11 a.m.-1 p.m. before police used less-lethal force to subdue the individual. He was uninjured and taken into custody for evaluation.
Police had portions of Providence Boulevard, Red Leaf Court, Willow Oak Drive and Orange Leaf Court blocked off.
As a precaution, police evacuated the residences immediately surrounding the home and established a perimeter on all sides of the home.
Several units from the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office and Christiansburg Police Department were on scene, as well as Virginia State Police, U.S. Marshals and Christiansburg Rescue.
The man’s name has not been released, because no charges have been filed at this time. He remains in police custody.
