Auburn High School had another great softball season this spring, and Coach David Hurd was honored this week when he was named the conference coach of the year.
The Lady Eagles also placed nine players to the all-conference all-star teams. Radford had three and Eastern Montgomery one player.
Radford’s Bailee Cox named to the first team as second baseman, and teammates Tiohna Eaves (first base) and Charli Dietz (utility) was named to the second team.
Eastern Montgomery’s Sydney Rector was a second team selection also a utility.
Auburn dominated the first and second teams. First team selections were: Skyler DeHart (pitcher), Abby Wilson (catcher), Emily Scaggs (flex) and Machenzie Lawerence (outfield).
Second team Auburn selections were: Carlee King (third baseman), Lacy Bishop (flex), Olivia Boyd (outfield), Kayla Altizer (outfield) and Jaylin Shepherd (utility).
Becca Harding (Auburn) and Bailee Reed (Eastern Montgomery) were named to the second team.
The all-conference baseball team was also announced this week. Auburn’s Kyle Altizer was named player of the year and his dad, who is also Auburn’s coach, Eric Altizer was named coach of the year.
Radford High School had one first teamer with Reece Williamson at pitcher. Four of his teammates were named to the second team—Chance Morris (pitcher), Taylor Newcome (second base), Matthew Rehak (outfield) and Ty Hamblin (utility).
In addition to the player of the year, Altizer was named first team catcher. Auburn placed a total five players on the first team—Hunter Perkins (first base), Keith Reed (pitcher), Ryan Albert (outfield) and Dylan Akers (utility). Cole Epperly (utility) and Jeremy Thomas (pitcher) were second team selections for the Eagles.
Eastern Montgomery’s Aaron Felty was honored as a second team outfielder.
Honorable mention selections included: Jake Garren, Landon Shaver and Hunter Justus from Eastern Montgomery; Michael Wheeler of Radford; and Aaric Huff and Adam Quesenberry from Auburn.
