On June 9th, United Way of Montgomery, Radford and Floyd hosted its third annual United Way Drive-thru Breakfast at the Hampton Inn in Christiansburg, and raised $3,011 to provide for critical human and health needs throughout the New River Valley.
For a $10 donation, customers received a breakfast bag stuffed with a hot biscuit, baked good, fruit, a freshly brewed Starbucks coffee, and a copy of The News Messenger. Also, the first 100 orders placed received an additional cinnamon roll, courtesy of Mockingbird Café and Bakery. All food was generously donated by Hampton Inn, Wades, Hethwood Market, Starbucks – Christiansburg, Mockingbird Café &Bakery, and Kroger – Blacksburg.
“The money raised at this event is significant for our organization and our partners”, commented Rachel Pearson, Development and Public Relations Manager at United Way. “Some ways $3,011 could be put to use in our community are 120 backpacks full of school supplies for low-income children, 68 nights of safe shelter for a woman involved in a domestic abuse situation, or over 1000 hot meals to seniors and individuals in need. We’d like to especially thank the Hampton Inn for hosting the event, our faithful volunteers who helped make it a success, and everyone who heard about the event and came by that morning!”
The New River Valley is full of so many generous companies, organizations, and people, and this is an excellent example of what our community is capable of when we unite together to help others. If you missed the Drive-thru Breakfast this year, be on the lookout for this fundraiser next spring!
