The Radford High School fell short against Galax in the 1A soccer championship earlier this month, and three Bobcats were honored Thursday as first-team all-state. Ateka Giahana, a junior, was first team forward. Michael Hill, also a junior, was honored as a midfielder, while sophomore William Mitchell made the team as a defender.
They were joined on the first team by Auburn’s Logan Phillips at the midfield position.
Radford’s Elliott first team girls’ soccer
The Bobcat girls’ soccer team fell in the state semi-finals and were honored to have senior Mary Elliott named to the 2A girls’ first team for soccer, while Radford’s Madison Page was second team.
Auburn’s Anna Dresser was second team along with teammate Alyssa Musselman.
Altizer first team 1A baseball, Reed second
Auburn High School picked up its first ever state baseball championship earlier this month, and Thursday two of its players were honored on the state’s 1A baseball team.
Catcher Kyle Altizer was first team, while teammate and pitcher Keith Reed was second team. Altizer is a senior, while Reed is only a sophomore. Also, Auburn head coach Eric Altizer was named coach of the year.
Blacksburg’s Elias first team 3A soccer
Hannah Elias of Blacksburg was named to the girls’ 3A all-state team as a defender. The Bruins advanced to the state semi-finals before bowing out.
Three Blacksburg boys all-state
The Blacksburg boys’ soccer team advanced to the state championship and had three players named to the recently announced 3A all-state team.
Harris Salom and Joe Carman was first team, while Jordan Burch was second team.
