Hokies named to state SID team
Virginia Tech junior, Breanna Davenport, and sophomore, Emma Strouth, have been named second-team VaSID All-State selections, the organization announced Friday.
For Strouth, it’s her first-career postseason honor while Davenport adds to an offseason that has seen her take home second-team All-ACC and second-team NFCA All-Mid-Atlantic Region accolades.
Strouth set career-highs in all major offensive categories in 2017 and led the Hokies with a .600 slugging percentage, 34 RBI, four triples and six outfield assists. She also ranked second on the team with a .338 batting average and 49 hits. The Julian, North Carolina native finished 10th in the ACC in slugging and tied for fourth in triples.
In her junior campaign, Davenport drove in 29 runs, scored 29 times and collected 10 doubles with eight home runs and a .333 batting average. The Statesville, North Carolina product also hit .408 with four home runs, 17 runs scored and 11 RBI in conference play.
Radford University’s Hunter Mundy was named to the second team.
Football camp for ages 7-13
The Christiansburg Department of Parks and Recreation, in cooperation with Christiansburg High School, is hosting a football camp June 26-28, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. for ages 7-13. The cost is $75 and covers a camp t-shirt, snack, lunch and water and Powerade.
There will be daily guest speakers and positive interaction with current players and coaches.
The camp will be held at the CHS practice field, and participants must pre-register by June 23.
