The Virginia Department of Transportation will be repairing a failing slope on Route 621 (Upper Craigs Creek Road) starting at 8 a.m. on Monday-Friday, July 7, 2017. This work was previously announced to start on June 19 but has been rescheduled due to weather.
The site is located 9.4 miles from Route 311 in Craig County and 11.2 miles from Route 460 in Montgomery County (just east of the Foxfire Subdivision in Craig County).
Route 621 will be closed to traffic during the repairs, except for daily set times in the morning from 6 a.m. to 8 a.m. and in the afternoon from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. when the road will be open under a one-lane condition.
Flaggers will be present to control traffic during the morning and afternoon. At all other times, motorists will need to seek alternate routes.
Arrangements have been made with emergency services to allow emergency vehicles access through the work site at any time, and there will be no expected impacts to those services during repairs.
Electronic message boards have been placed on Route 621 near Route 311 in Craig County and near Route 460 in Montgomery County announcing this road closure.
If the work progresses smoothly, there is a possibility of the road opening back sooner than expected. VDOT will remove the electronic message boards from the side of the roadway once the road reopens.
