Former Christiansburg student-athlete Alex Hylton has been named this year’s Posey Olyer Scholarship award winner from the Salem-Roanoke Baseball Hall of Fame.
Hylton, who played four-years of varsity baseball at Christiansburg High School, will continue his playing career at Bluefield College. He was named to the Conference 32 team as both a third baseman and pitcher.
Auburn’s Kyle Altizer is also a finalist for the group’s high school player of year award. He is joined by Cody Boone of Hidden Valley, Nathan Cutler of Staunton River, Josh Greenway of North Cross, Koby Karnes of Staunton River and Ty Maust of Lord Botetrout.
Altizer, who was first team all-conference, all-region and all-state this past year as a catcher, was also named the all-county/all-city player of the year. He led the Eagles to their first ever state baseball championship this past season.
The player of the year winner will be announced next month.
