James Dudley Boyd, Sr., 84, passed away Saturday, July 15, 2017 at his home in Radford surrounded by his family. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was a U. S. Navy veteran having served during the Korean Conflict and was retired from the Lynchburg Foundry. He had a great love for baseball and spent many years coaching the Radford Raiders. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dewey and Mattie Boyd; 5 brothers and 4 sisters.
Survivors include his loving wife of 64 years, Lula Boyd; daughters and son-in-law, Linda Guthrie, and Wanda and Mike Melton, all of Radford; son and daughter-in-law, J. D. and Kathy Boyd of Riner; 8 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren; sister, Pauline Doffner of Baltimore, Md.; special friends, Tex Altizer, Paul Wilson and Duane Hall; and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today at the Mullins Funeral Home in Radford with Pastor Chandler Jones officiating. Interment with full military honors will follow in Highland Memory Gardens in Dublin.
