Vanessa Panousis has signed a contract to begin her professional career with the Adelaide Lightning in her native Australia. The Lightning are based out of Adelaide, South Australia and compete in the Women’s National Basketball League.
“I can’t wait to be able to play in my home country again and play in such a competitive league,” Panousis said. “Virginia Tech has definitely helped me get to this point today, being in such an athletic league and playing against the best has prepared me for my professional career.”
Panousis played four years for the Hokies competing in 127 career games. She left her mark on the program, with her name placed prominently across the record book. The combo guard ranks first in games started (122), free throw percentage (.845) and set the all-time mark for made 3-point baskets during her senior season with 269.
“I am extremely happy for Vanessa and her signing with the Adelaide Lightning,” Kenny Brooks said. “This is a life-long dream of hers and well-deserved. We know Vanessa will be the ultimate professional as she was the ultimate Hokie!”
Panouisis averaged 10.9 points per game in her career scoring 1,379 points, seventh in program history. Her 341 assists are good for ninth all-time.
