Wayne (“Billy Wayne”) Webb of Christiansburg, VA left this world on July 25, 2017 to continue his woodworking in heaven. And he loved eating onions, so we know they have sharpened the saws and planted an onion patch just for him in heaven.
Wayne was born in Coalwood, WV on March 20, 1928. He is preceded in death by his parents Montague Ford (“Monty”) and Zada Webb of Hillsville, VA.
Over the years Wayne worked at Hillsville Hosiery Mill, Sears, The Truck Stop and Guynn’s Furniture Store in Hillsville, VA. He later worked at Guynn’s Department Store in Blacksburg, VA as well as Leggett Department Stores in Blacksburg, VA, Christiansburg, VA, Radford, VA and Seaford, DE. He enjoyed Square Dancing, woodworking and coin collecting. Wayne was an active member of Blacksburg Christian Church where he used his woodworking skills to provide presents for Mother’s Day and Christmas gifts for the children. The Christmas gifts sometimes included money from his coin collection with a history of the coins. He and his wife, Helen, also provided candy filled Easter eggs for the children. They became known to the children of the congregation as “Him” and “Her”. Wedding and Baby Shower honorees received a basket made by Wayne filled with a hand knit wash cloth and strawberry/rhubarb jam home made by Helen along with a gift card. For 14 years Wayne also shared his woodworking abilities with RSVP by donating a quilt rack each year for auction for student scholarships.
