John Thomas Anderson, 84, of Radford, died on Monday. The beloved son of Walter and Elizabeth McCarthy Anderson, John was born in Washington D.C. on September 7, 1932 and graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Catholic University in 1956, receiving a bachelor’s degree in Political Science. In 1973 he earned a master’s degree in Business Administration from George Washington University.
He worked at Bureau of Ships, Defense Mapping Agency and retired at the Pentagon as Comptroller for the Chief, Army Reserve.
As a person of faith John took care of his mentally disabled cousins as a guardian for 43 years and served the homeless as a volunteer with Lazarus at the Gate. Seeking a quieter life John and his wife of 55 years, Anne, moved to Radford from Falls Church in 2005. He died in peace at home with family.
John is survived by his wife Anne, his sons John, Charles and Michael, and his grandchildren Zachary, Benjamin, Claire and Charles.
A funeral service will take place at St. Jude Church in Radford on Monday at 11 a.m.
