Martha Sloane Pascoe Waybright, 95, of Blacksburg passed away peacefully at her home on the afternoon of August 7, 2017. She was born on Christmas Eve, 1921 in the Canal Zone of Panama, where her father was an engineer and her mother had been a nurse. Her parents were Frank S. and Lucile Sloane Pascoe, and upon their early deaths, she was raised by her aunts, Jane and Laura Pascoe of Blacksburg, VA.
She was preceded in death by her husband Thomas J. Waybright, daughter Ann W. Whitehead (Neil, of Conifer, CO), and son John Thomas Waybright (Bonita, of Blacksburg, VA). She was also preceded in death by her sister and brother-in-law, Laura and James Pascoe, of Blacksburg, VA.
She is survived by her daughter Amy W. White (Larry), of Harrisonburg, VA, and her niece Joanne Pascoe of Davie, FL. She is also survived by three granddaughters, Elissa K. Waybright of Blacksburg, VA, Jenny L. White of Washington, DC, Laura A. White, and a great-grandson, Samuel Campbell, both of Ashburn, VA.
Mrs. Waybright’s career was as a librarian at Virginia Tech, and she maintained a keen interest in local and family history.
A private graveside service will be held in the Pascoe-Waybright family cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Michaels Lutheran church or Carilion Hospice of the New River Valley. Arrangements by McCoy Funeral Home, Blacksburg.
