JUCO player signs with Hokies
Virginia Tech softball head coach Scot Thomas has announced the signing of Sierra Walton, a junior college transfer from Indian Hills Community College, to a National Letter of Intent.
Walton, a catcher, is set to join the Hokies this fall and is eligible to play immediately. She will have two years of eligibility entering the spring of 2018.
A native of Des Moines, Iowa, Walton was a two-time ICCAC All-Region XI first-team selection and a 2017 NFCA second-team All-American. She led the team with a .467 batting average to go along with 12 home runs and 49 RBI. Walton also participated in the 2017 NJCAA Division I where she placed second with 12 home runs on 20 swings.
Indian Hills went to the NJCAA National Tournament in each of Walton’s two seasons with the Warriors.

The home dual schedule begins with Central Michigan at Cassell Coliseum on November 19 at 3 p.m. The following weekend, the Hokies will face Mizzou at the Moss Arts Center on November 25 in a dual between two programs that finished sixth and fifth, respectively, at last year’s NCAA Championships. Tickets for the dual will go on sale later this fall.
Before returning to Cassell to face West Virginia on December 22, Tech will go head-to-head with Princeton on the stage at The Theater at Madison Square Garden in New York City on December 10.
January will see the Hokies wrestle Lehigh on January 26 and Duke on January 27 at Cassell Coliseum after competing at the Virginia Duals in Hampton, Virginia from January 12-13. The final dual of the season will be at NC State on the weekend of February 16-18. A set date and time will be announced in the coming months.
