The Montgomery Museum and Lewis Miller Regional Art Center is pleased announce the celebration of Heritage Day on Saturday, Aug. 26, 2017 from 10-3. This annual festival celebrates the rich history here in Montgomery County with families from all parts of the county.
Heritage Day offers many benefits to the community by (1) providing educational exhibits for children and adults with hands-on opportunities, (2) celebrating traditional crafts, (3) exhibiting fine art, and (4) exploring regional history. This event also provides outlets for the continuation of ties to our past. Music by local artists and historical dancing are offered to entertain and educate. Another important benefit of the festival is that it provides an excellent social opportunity for families.
Come and watch demonstrations of blacksmithing, weaving and spinning, basket making, weaponry, wood turning, leatherworking, rug hooking and more. Watch and participate in historic Colonial dance and square dancing! Enjoy the work of fine artists and find treasures to purchase from artisan vendors. Music all day will be provided by Olen and Frances Gardner, Kathie and John Hollandsworth, Fort Vause, and Porch Loungers who generously give their time to make this day such a success! The museum genealogy research team will be on hand with historical information about the Civil war period.
There is something for everyone — lots of activities for children including petting the animals from 5J farm and checking out the bugs from the VA Tech Department of Entomology.
Bring your favorite pie and enter the Pie Cookoff to win a cash prize. Judges Erlene Barber, Chris Tuck, and Terri Caldwell will be sampling each delicious pie to find a winner! A winner will also be awarded to youth 12 years and under. Don’t miss this great opportunity to sample some of Montgomery County’s finest baking after the judging!
The biggest part of the day is the Silent Auction! Come and bid on the many wonderful baskets and individual items. Once again there is a VT Bud Foster Defense lunchbox signed by Bud, wine and food baskets, gift cards for local restaurants, overnight stays, artwork, handwork, etc.
Also take a chance on a Yeti cooler and one of four Walmart gift cards for $200 each. Raffle tickets are for sale at the museum and all day on Heritage Day.
