RU meet the coach night
Radford University Athletics is excited to be hosting “Meet the Coaches Night” Presented by National Bank on Thursday, September 14 at the newly remodeled Farmhouse Restaurant in Christiansburg.
The meet and greet with the coaches and athletics administration will run from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Radford University President Brian O. Hemphill and Director of Athletics Robert Lineburg offer remarks. Complimentary appetizers and a cash bar will be available. Hokies Hoops & Heels
Virginia Tech men’s basketball coach Buzz Williams will host the ladies of Hokie Nation Sunday, September 24 from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. for the Fourth Annual women-only event. Each participant will learn the basics of basketball. Registration includes breakfast and exclusive giveaways. The registration fee is $25 and for another $25 you can purchase a special quote t-shirt for the event.

Concord cross county picked third
The Concord University women’s cross-country team has been picked to finish third in the Mountain East Conference according to the preseason coaches’ poll that was released Thursday afternoon.
The Mountain Lions followed in behind Wheeling Jesuit who grabbed nine first-place votes and 99 points, and West Virginia Wesleyan who picked up the final two first-place votes and 90 points. Concord finished with 84 points.

Yanks manager honored by Appy
Dorante Luis has led the Pulaski Yankees to a second place divisional finish and Friday, he was honored by the Appalachian League as its manager of the year.
As a player, he spent six minor league seasons in the Boston Red Sox organization. Following the end of his playing career he worked briefly as a scout for the Montreal Expos, before becoming a manager with the Gulf Coast League Expos in 1995.
In the 22 years since, Dorante has managed at the Rookie, A, High A, and Double-A levels of minor league baseball. He has spent time with the Expos (now Nationals), Marlins, Pirates, and Yankees organizations. Dorante served as a major league bullpen coach for the Marlins in 2005 and the Pirates from 2008-2010.
