The Virginia Tech women’s basketball team has announced its 2017-18 non-conference schedule, which features trips to the U.S. Virgin Islands for the Paradise Jam Classic and Champaign, Ill. for a Big Ten/ACC Women’s Basketball Challenge contest.
The 2017-18 slate features games against six teams that participated in postseason tournaments, including three each from the NCAA Tournament and the WNIT.
Tech will host seven non-conference home games inside the newly renovated Cassell Coliseum, beginning with Wagner on Friday, Nov. 10. Other November home contests will include rematches against Auburn on Nov. 13 and UCF on Nov. 19. USC Upstate will also make the trip to Blacksburg for a clash on Nov. 17.
The Hokies will travel to St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands to compete in the Island Division of the 2017 Paradise Jam from Nov. 23-25. Over three days of competition, Tech will take on Drexel, Butler and West Virginia in a round-robin style pool play.
The following week, Tech will travel to Champaign, Ill. for a matchup with the Illinois Fighting Illini for the ACC/Big Ten Challenge. It will be the programs’ first meeting on the hardwood since 1991. Tech has won its last two Challenge games, defeating Nebraska in 2016 at Cassell and against Penn State in 2015.
Following the Challenge, Tech will return home to face the Radford Highlanders on Sunday, Dec. 3, and Maryland Eastern Shore on Dec. 6.
Tech will hit the road for two games in the month of December; Sunday, Dec. 10 at Chattanooga, and Dec. 12 against Monmouth in West Long Branch, N.J.
The Hokies will wrap up the non-conference portion of its schedule on Dec. 16 at home against High Point before fall exams.
