Former Hokie to coach at Emory
Emory & Henry College Head Men’s Basketball Coach David Willson is pleased to announce a pair of new assistant coaches on the Wasps’ staff in former Virginia Tech guard Matt Galloway and former University of Tennessee at Chattanooga guard Ronrico White.
Galloway recently graduated cum laude with a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree from Virginia Tech. He was a three-year member of the Hokies’ basketball program, earning a scholarship his final year.
This past season, Galloway played in 14 games helping the Hokies to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in 10 years. He was a two-time member of the ACC Academic Honor Roll and was a member of the Virginia Tech Dean’s List.
White joins the Wasps after a stellar four-year career at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and graduated as Chattanooga’s 14th all-time leading scorer with more than 1,000 points. He also ranked among UTC’s top 10 in made three-pointers, top three in free throws made, and top eight in assists. Emory & Henry is coming off a 20-8 season, its first 20-win campaign since 1992-93.
Big South honors
Radford University redshirt junior Kieran Roberts and senior captain Fraser Colmer highlighted the Big South’s weekly men’s soccer awards on Monday after the Highlanders went 1-1 over opening weekend, including a strong effort at No. 5 Clemson.
Roberts was named Big South Attacking Player of the Week for the second time in his career, while Colmer earned his second Big South Defensive Player of the Week honor.
The duo guided Radford to a season opening 4-0 win at Wofford in dominating fashion on Friday and gave nationally ranked Clemson everything they could manage in a 2-1 Sunday afternoon loss.
Palmer Big South player of week
Senior Maddie Palmer has picked up right where she left off in her final season in a Radford University uniform as she was named Big South Conference Volleyball Player of the Week, announced by the conference on Monday.
After winning a record-setting six Big South Conference Player of the Week honors, Palmer ended the weekend with a double-double performance against Lehigh. The senior tallied 12 kills and 15 digs in the match alone, but totaled 35 kills and 28 digs over the weekend.
RU’s goalkeeper Freshman of Week
Radford University’s women’s soccer has claimed weekly awards in back-to-back weeks now that freshman goalkeeper Lexi Dean has been tabbed Big South Freshman of the Week following another strong performance, the league office announced Monday afternoon.
Dean has started all three games of her young career between the sticks for head coach Ben Sohrabi and already has two shutouts and two wins. Friday night against Chattanooga she made four saves to keep the Mocs off the board and push the Highlanders to 3-0-0 on the season.
