Week three of high school football is upon us and at least three area teams need to find a way for their first win of the season. Christiansburg, Eastern Montgomery and Radford, all fell to 0-2 on the young season.
Elsewhere, Blacksburg suffered a loss to Lord Botetourt, while Auburn picked up a win to even their mark at 1-1.

Last week for Christiansburg: Lost to Giles 62-20. The defense gave up over 300 yards to 11 ball carriers including Patrick Beidleman who ran for 241 yards on 16 carries with four touchdowns.
Last week: Liberty was idle, but downed Franklin County 47-14 two weeks ago.
Scouting report on Liberty: Team was 2-8 last season. Chris Watt is in his 16th season and has a 108-65 overall record at the school. Quarterback Drake Schaeffer (5-9, 165, jr.) leads an offense that runs a triple option attack. Runningback Taylor Carson (6-1, 200) gives Liberty a big back for an outstanding ground attack. His running mate is Tre Saunders (6-0, 205, jr.). Tight end Brook Lucas could also cause some problems at 6-5, 245. Brandon Ruff (6-5, 265) anchors an offensive line that has five players over 260 pounds. Also, defensive tackle Malachia Johnson (5-11, 260) could cause some havoc from the other side of the ball.

Last week for Blacksburg. Lost 26-22 to Lord Botetrout as Bruins were shutout in the second half, giving up 300 yards on the ground. Cole Beck was limited to 61 yards and as a team, Blacksburg was held to 37 yards of total offense in quarters three and four. The Bruins did throw for 144 yards as Grant Johnston connected with Tiquest Terry for three passes and 106 yards.

Ft. Chiswell scouting report: Todd Tiller is in his third season with 9-4 record last season, losing in the Group 1A quarterfinal. Returns six offensive starters including wide receiver Tanner Bailey (6-1, 190) and running back Sean Morgan (5-11, 165). Running back Tyler Jakubiak (6-0, 190) returns after gaining 585 yards last season with an average of 8.6 yards per attempt. Bailey had 478 yards on 30 receptions.

Scouting report: Coach Winfred Beale in this 37th season at Floyd with a 210-168-4 overall mark. Last season, the Buffalos were 6-5 with a lost in 2A West Region first round. The team’s strength is on the offensive and defensive line where eight players average over 210 pounds. Fullback Jarrett Agee (6-0, 185) leads an experienced backfield Ian Bary (6-0, 175) is back at quarterback.

Last week for Eastern Montgomery: Lost to Hurley 28-20 but did rush for 136 yards on 31 carries and pass for 141 yards. Nick Bahken threw for a touchdown pass and ran for another.
Last week for Roanoke Catholic: Beat Fishburne Military Academy 55-6. Micah English rushed for 96 yards and two touchdowns. Defense limited Fishburne to five total yards of offense.
Scouting report on Roanoke Catholic: Bob Price is in his 15th season and has compiled a 91-53 record. Last season, they were `10-1 and won the VISAA Div. III state championship as they outscored its opponents 446-58 in its eight regular-season wins including 83-6 over Massanutten. Seven starters return on both sides of the ball. Runningback Mykah English (5-11, 182) returns after scoring 11 touchdowns last season. Jacob Elliott (5-9, 212, soph.) had 80 tackles last season.
