Leslie Hager-Smith is running for mayor of Blacksburg. As a member of the town’s council and vice mayor, she has the qualifications to be mayor.
As a vice mayor, Hager-Smith has helped to create a Blacksburg that is nationally recognized as an excellent place to live. Blacksburg also has been touted as an exceptional place for retirees. As mayor, Hager-Smith promises to maintain that legacy.
Blacksburg’s Summer Solstice Festival, now in its 11th year, was co-founded by Hager-Smith. She also conceived and launched “Up on the Roof” to attract young professionals to the downtown area.
Additionally, she supported establishing an Art and Cultural District, which provides economic incentives for artists, including marketing their art at home.
Another achievement: she initiated council action on legalizing Accessory Dwelling Units in homes that are owner-occupied, allowing homeowners to age in place with a caretaker on site.
Hager-Smith is a good listener, personable, with a good head on her shoulders with numerous accomplishments.
I am excited and proud to vote for her on Tuesday, Nov. 7.
