The cornerback registered 87-yard punt return TD in No. 25 last season vs. ECU
Virginia Tech senior CB Greg Stroman has earned the distinction of wearing Frank Beamers’ No. 25 for the No. 16 Hokies’ game at East Carolina’s Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium today.
The game will mark the second time the Bristow native has worn the honorary number in his career. His first time wearing the Beamer No. 25 also came against the Pirates. Stroman opened a 54-17 Tech victory in Lane Stadium last year with an 87-yard punt return TD.
His three career punt return TDs are two shy of the Tech career record of five owned by DeAngelo Hall (2001-03). Stroman needs 17 more punt returns to overtake Eddie Royal (111) for second in VT annals behind only John Ludlow (135). Royal (1,296) owns the Tech career mark for punt return yards. Stroman currently has 774 and needs 99 more to overtake Andre’ Davis (872) for second. Over his last 13 games, Stroman has returned 32 punts and scored three TDs, a ratio of one TD per every 10.7 returns. Stroman registered his third career punt return TD with a 61-yard score in last week’s 27-0 victory against Delaware.
At the beginning of last season, head coach Justin Fuente announced that a special teams player of the week would be selected to wear the No. 25 as a tribute to Coach Beamer and his legacy of special teams excellence he spawned for the Hokies.
