Services for George Dalley will be held at Old Brick Presbyterian Church in Radford, Virginia, at 2pm today, Saturday Sept. 23 2017, Robert Morris officiating.
George Dalley first came to Old Brick Presbyterian Church in the summer of 1958 as a student with the Westminster Club from The University of Maryland. The group camped at Claytor Lake and helped rebuild the church. They did the interior painting, held Vacation Bible School, and conducted evening services while they were here.
George came back to the area on school breaks and during the summer. His connection and deep feeling for those less fortunate than himself led him to take kids from the area roller skating and other adventures.
After graduation from U of MD he was appointed as a USAID Advisor to Laos in Feb 1963 for two years. George and Sarah made their home in Christiansburg where he served and worked at the New River Community Action, The Chamber of Commerce, the Democratic Party, Pulaski Social Services with at risk youth, the Presbytery of the Peak, as well as Old Brick and his book store. George truly lived out his faith and his baptismal vows in a life of service to others.
George met the love of his life, Miss Sarah Feather, at Union Valley Presbyterian Chapel in 1960 and they were married in 1962. Over the years George remained a devoted husband and a faithful caretaker to his wife.
As her health declined his focus and efforts were on her and her recovery. Even while he was in the hospital, facing his own surgery, he wanted constant updates on Sarah. When he could not take care of her, he made sure others did.
George was a faithful member of Old Brick Presbyterian Church in Radford. He was ordained a Ruling Elder in 1969 helping rebuild the church both physically and spiritually from those days as a student volunteer.
Early on he was a leader in OB’s youth and teen groups and later taught adult Sunday School and Bible School. When he was needed George was very able, and always ready to preach from the pulpit as well.
