John Richard Sutton Wendland, 71, of Roanoke, died Saturday, Sept. 23, 2017 at his home surrounded by family. He was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on Sept. 16, 1946.
He graduated from Webster University in St. Louis, Missouri and went on to have a career as a quality engineer. For the last several years, he was a Senior Project Engineer for Carilion Clinic and worked to improve the health of our community. He was a member of Greene Memorial United Methodist Church in Roanoke.
He is preceded in death by his father, Vernon Wendland. He is survived by his mother, Frances Wendland; wife, Julie Wendland; daughters, Denise Foti, Kimberly Basile, Lynn Settingsgaard; son and daughter-in-law, Daniel and Jeneen Settingsgaard, son Aaron Wendland and girlfriend Abby Steinberger; twelve grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, Paul and Sandra Wendland; and four nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be conducted Saturday September 30th, 2017 at 11:00AM at Greene Memorial United Methodist Church with the Rev. Gary Heaton and Rev. Jonathan Page officiating. A luncheon will immediately follow the service at the Church. Arrangements by McCoy Funeral Home, Blacksburg.
