Chris Hurst is a clean-cut young journalist who has entered the political arena and is challenging Joseph Yost for the District 12 delegate seat.
Yost has sent out a mailer claiming billionaires from out of state are pouring money into Hurst’s campaign. This simply is not true. ALL of Hurst’s funds have come from local donors. The Montgomery County Democratic Committee donated $2,500.
On the other hand, Yost has received tens of thousands of dollars from the Energy and Pharmaceutical industries. Since Yost is wedded to these two industries, any legislation arising in the General Assembly concerning energy or pharmaceuticals, Yost will have to be beholden to their wishes.
Yost’s campaign insists that should Hurst be elected, he would join the left-wing democrats in the G.A. Hurst is not a left-wing liberal; he, like I, is a moderate. I wouldn’t be writing this letter if his politics were out in left field.
Another thing to consider: the billionaire Koch brothers are working diligently to get all state legislatures predominately Republican, including the governor, because the legislature controls redistricting, which would make most of the congressional representatives Republicans.
To aid in this effort, the United States Chamber of Commerce has contributed $4 million. A group aligned with American Legislative Exchange Committee contributed. Also chipping in were Wal-Mart, Anthem Health Insurance and two tobacco companies. It is sad that there are those who want to see our country ruled by one party.
Chris Hurst is a fresh addition to the political scene, and I would like to see him elected to Virginia’s General Assembly.
