Montgomery County kindergarten teacher Chelsea E. Carter was arrested for public intoxication Tuesday morning after Sheriff’s deputies were called to Eastern Montgomery Elementary School.
“We received a call from MCPS Human Resources at 10:20 a.m. on [Tuesday] requesting that we meet them at Eastern Montgomery Elementary School to deal with a teacher who was ‘under the influence,’” Capt. Brian Wright wrote in an email.
Wright said that Deputies responded and met with school staff and Carter, 26, of Wytheville, in the Principal’s office. Based on the information provided by school staff, Carter, and the observations of the deputies on the scene, she was arrested and charged with public intoxication for being under the influence of alcohol and taken to the Montgomery County Jail.
She was released on bond that afternoon. MCPS Spokeswoman Brenda Drake said that Carter is no longer employed with the school system, but would not answer any further questions regarding the matter.
Carter has the option to prepay the ticket, but as of now is set to appear in court Nov. 17.
