For those who have an interest in 3-D printing, New River Community College is offering 3-D printing workshops this month in Christiansburg.
“Hands on 3-D Printing” (#8861) will take participants through the steps of manipulating and printing a 3-D file. Students will learn how to manipulate text, edit an existing file, export the printer file and start their own design using SketchUp. Participants will leave the workshop with their own customized 3-D printed object. The workshop will be held Thursday, Nov. 9, from 4 to 6 p.m. in 109 Martin Hall at NRCC in Dublin.
“Introduction to 3-D Printing” (#8859) will feature overviews of 3-D printing history and current technology including uses of 3-D printing in education and industry. Participants will be given demonstrations, shown how to set up printers, provided tips and tricks for printing and a basic introduction to modeling software including Inventor, Space Claim and SketchUp. Future 3-D printing technologies will also be discussed. The workshop is scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 15, from 4 to 6 p.m. in room 148 at the college’s NRV Mall site in Christiansburg.
Each workshop is $40. For online registration, visit www.nr.edu/workforce, Classes & Programs, Non Credit Course Offerings and then search for the workshop ID number.
