Vertie Farmer Hawkins, 95, of Radford, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2017 at Radford Nursing and Rehab. Center. Born on July 27, 1922, she was a devoted member of Calvary Baptist Church in Radford where she loved being part of the “Young at Heart”.
She was loved by all her family and friends and will be missed by all. She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Maggie Farmer; her husband, Jay B. Hawkins, Sr.; son, Jay Bishop Hawkins, Jr.; grandsons, Michael L. Shaw and J. J. Hawkins; great-grandson, Cooper Lee Shaw; son-in-law, Roger Shaw; and 11 brothers and sisters.
Survivors include her daughter, Barbara H. Shaw of Christiansburg; son and daughter-in-law, Stephen Bishop and Tonya Hawkins; grandsons, Timmie R. Shaw and his wife Sue Ann, and Taylor Aubrey; granddaughters, Emma Grace Devers and Amanda Batcher; great grandchildren Elijah Hedge, Thomas Shaw, Matthew Shaw and Lilian Shaw; and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today, Nov. 4, 2017 at the Calvary Baptist Church in Radford with Pastor Timothy Worles officiating. Interment will follow in Highland Memory Gardens in Dublin.
