Robert Lee McElwee, 90, of Blacksburg, died Thursday, Nov. 2, 2017 at his home. He was born in Elkins, West Virginia, on Oct. 4, 1927 to the late Ralph and Madeline McElwee.
He was preceded in death by his wife, June McElwee, and a brother, Rodney McElwee. He attended Northside Presbyterian Church. Mr. McElwee received his bachelors and masters degrees from West Virginia University and his doctorate from North Carolina State. He joined Virginia Tech in 1971 as a professor in Forestry and Wildlife. He was an avid reader, traveler, and crossword puzzler.
He is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, David McElwee, of Blacksburg, Va., Tim and Cindy McElwee, of Oviedo, Fl., Brendan and Rachel McElwee, of Fernandina Beach, Fl., a grandson, Robert, a cousin, Richard Kelly, of Atlanta, Ga., a sister-in-law, Helen Hedrick, of Richmond, Va., and numerous nieces and nephews. Services will be held at a later date. Arrangements by McCoy Funeral Home, Blacksburg, Va.
