Donald David Plott, Jr., 75, passed away Saturday, Nov. 4, 2017 at his home in Dublin surrounded by his family.
David was born on December 5, 1941 in Kingsport, Tenn. to Ruth and Donald Plott. He was raised in Kingsport and spent summers in Anna, Illinois on the family orchard where he enjoyed time with his family and their dogs. After graduating from Dobbins Bennett High School in Kingsport, he attended the University of Tennessee in Knoxville where he earned a degree in Business Administration and was a member of his beloved fraternity Phi Sigma Kappa. During college, he joined Calvary Baptist Church where he invited the Lord into his heart and became a devoted Christian. After college, he entered the U. S. Navy. He married and started his family in Knoxville, Tenn. and eventually came to Virginia to work. The family joined Belspring Baptist Church in Belspring, Va. where David continued his devotion to the Lord and sharing the word of God by starting a puppet ministry for children in which his family participated. This led to a desire to serve the Lord full time and he returned to school to earn a Masters of Divinity from Southeastern Baptist Seminary in Wake Forest, N.C. He went on to pastor Belspring Baptist, Memorial Baptist in Bluefield, Va., Fairlawn Baptist (interim pastor) and as Director of Missions for the Goshen and East River and Highlands Baptist Associations. He dedicated his life to sharing the word of God and extended that love throughout the world serving as a missionary to Central and South America, Europe, and Africa.
David loved to travel, play golf, watch football, take photos, hunt, tell family stories and most of all his family and pets, especially his dogs.
Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Rebecca B. Plott of Dublin; sons and daughters-in-law, Tommy and Chrissy Plott of Bluefield, Joey Plott of Blacksburg, and Jon and Sherri Plott of Conover, N.C.; daughter and son-in-law, Laura and Tim Daniels of Christiansburg; grandchildren, Drew and Brooke Plott, Kody Plott, Brooke Daniels, Paige Daniels, Gage Sigmon and Piper Plott; great-grandchildren, Lilly and Finley Plott; brother, Roger Plott; and sister, Mary Ann Hickman.
The family received friend. on Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2017 at the First Baptist Church, 215 Third Avenue, Radford. Memorial services will begin at 11 a.m. with Rev. Kent Taylor officiating. Interment will follow in the Southwest Virginia Veterans Cemetery in Dublin.
