Blacksburg High School took two head-to-head victories in a tri-swim meet Monday at the Blacksburg Aquatics Center. The Bruins’ boys downed Giles 78-13 and Christiansburg 80-8 while the Giles boys’ beat Christiansburg 40-36.
On the girls’ side of the pool, Blacksburg also got wins over Giles (67-20) and Christiansburg (50-41) The Blue Demon girls swam past Giles 50-33.
The Blacksburg boys 200-yard medley relay team of Joseph Zobel, Nick Fillo, Lewis Rockwell and Cristian Londono swam to a win over their own second place teammates. Christiansburg was third.
The Christiansburg girls 200-yard medley relay team of Aubrey Jones, Madeline Sarver, Megan Cummins and Leah Greiner took first with Blacksburg in tow in second.
Blacksburg’s Dennis Koh, Keaton Sprindler and Brandon Fan were 1-2-3 in the boys 200-yard Freestyle with Christiansburg’s Reece Showalter fourth.
Christiansburg’s Leah Greiner and Madeline Sarver crossed the line 1-2 in their 200-yard Freestyle with Blacksburg’s Risa Dickerman third.
The Bruins also controlled the boys’ 200-yard IM with first place Lewis Rockwell and second place Nick Fillo. Risa Dickerman gave the Blue Demons a third place.
Julie Anderson of Blacksburg led the girls to the 200-yard IM finish. Teammates Haley Slusser and Lexi Nussbaum followed her to the line.
Blacksburg also took 1-2-3 in the boys 50-yard Freestyle. Dennis Koh took top honors. Dickerman followed up the 200-yard Freestyle finish with a win in the girls’ 50-yard event.
Rockwell led Spindler to the finish in the boys’ 100-yard Butterfly as Christiansburg’s Lane Zuchowski placed third. Anderson took the girls event, while Christiansburg’s Cummins was second.
Henry Myers would win the boys’ 100-yard Freestyle for the Bruins with teammate Nick Goldstein in tow. Christiansburg’s Trey King and Kenneth Rizak was third and fourth.
Blacksburg’s Grace Shen took the girls’ 100-yard Freestyle. Nick Zolovick and Patrick Reilly gave the Bruins two top finishes in the boys 500-yard Freestyle, while Christiansburg’s Madeline Sarver slid in with a first on the girls’ side.
Blacksburg would take both the girls and boys 200-yard Freestyle Relay event.
The 100-yard Backstroke belonged to the 1-2 boys finish of Nick Zolovivk and Patrick Reilly. Showalter was third for Christiansburg.
Amy Menegay won the girls’ 100-yard Backstroke, and Lexi Nussbaum continued Blacksburg’s bragging rights with first in the girls 100-yard Breaststroke. Nick Fillo picked up another win in the boy’s 100-yard Breaststroke.
Blacksburg would continue a great meet with a win in the 400-yard Freestyle Relay, but the Christiansburg girls spoiled things on the scorecard with a win over the Bruins.
