The News Messenger/ Radford News Journal All-County/All-City football team has Blacksburg’s Cole Beck being named the player of the year and Thad Wells as coach of the year.
The offensive squad included the following:
Quarterback: Grant Johnston (6-5, 200, junior), Blacksburg High School- 13 games, 161-263, 2,357 yards with 31 touchdowns and six interceptions.
Runningback: Devin Owens (5-6, 194, junior), Eastern Montgomery- 136 carries for 1,080 yards, nine touchdowns, also three catches for 53 yards.
Runningback: Cole Beck 6-1, 200, senior), Blacksburg- Tech signee, 217 carries for 1,720 yards with 28 touchdowns.
Runningback: P.J. Prioleau (5-9, 160, freshman), Radford- 79 carries for 615 yards with five touchdowns, also had 18 catches for 182 yards and three touchdowns, also threw a touchdown pass.
Runningback: Charles Nwaihese (5-10, 192, senior), Christiansburg- 128 carries for 619 yards, five touchdowns; also seven receptions for 111 yards with a touchdown.
Wide receiver: Tiquest Terry (5-9, 165, junior), Blacksburg- 49 receptions for 844 yards with 13 touchdowns, also 37 carries with 325 yards and four touchdowns on the ground.
Wide receiver: Aaron Felty (6-2, 167, senior), Eastern Montgomery- 13 catches for 248 yards, three touchdowns, injured that only allowed into seven games this season.
Wide receiver: Chris Carter (5-10, 160, sophomore), Radford- 12 catches for 122 yards and a touchdown, also had 78 carries for 470 yards and three touchdowns.
OL: Cole Shepherd (6-4, 203, sophomore), Eastern Montgomery- team’s best offensive lineman, led team in pancake blocks.
OL: Cody Harris 96-3, 202, senior), Auburn.
OL: Ben Cox (6-5, 240, Sophomore), Radford.
OL: Davis Roberson (6-3, 300, senior), Blacksburg.
OL: Nathan Lucas 5-7, 252, senior), Christiansburg.
Kicker: Camden Wise, Blacksburg and Connor Lytton, Radford- Wise was 54 of 60 on point after’s;
Kick returner: Tiquest Terry, Blacksburg.
Specialist: Nic Cook (5-9, 181, senior), Christiansburg- passing 40-95 for 701 yards, seven touchdowns; also had 13 catches for 238 yards and three touchdowns; also had 83 carries for 326 yards.
Offensive player of year: P.J. Prioleau, Radford.
Offensive lineman of year: Davis Roberson, Blacksburg.
Defense
DL: Adam Chapman (6-1, 219, senior), Auburn- 44 tackles with four sacks.
DL: Ben Cox, Radford- 58 total tackles with nine for a loss and three sacks.
DL: Gideon Driscoll (6-5, 265, senior), Blacksburg- 87 tackles including 35 solos with two fumble recoveries including one for a TD.
DL: Xavier Wright (6-0, 242, junior), Christiansburg- 56 solo tackles, 21 assists, six for loss with a fumble recovery.
Defensive end: Roman Bonet (6-0, 200, senior), Radford, 55 total tackles, 12 for a loss.
Defensive end: Chase Orndorff (6-0, 215, senior), Blacksburg- 49 total tackles with two fumble recoveries.
Defensive end: Mac Padgett (5-11, 190, junior), Christiansburg- 40 solo tackles, 17 assists, seven tackles for loss, one fumble recovery and 2.5 sacks.
Linebacker: Drew Hill (5-11 197, junior), Auburn- 121 total tackles with 40 solos.
Linebacker: Matthew McClernan (5-11, 174, junior), Eastern Montgomery- 64 tackles, four for loss, one interception, one defensive touchdown.
Linebacker: Justice Marshall (5-8, 160, sophomore), Radford- 82 total tackles with six for a loss.
Linebacker: Matson Stanley (5-9, 172, sophomore), Christiansburg- 78 solo tackles, 44 assisted tackles, four fumble recoveries.
Linebacker: Cole Epperley (6-0, 160, junior), Blacksburg- 98 tackles with six for loss with an interception and four fumble recoveries.
Linebacker: Josh Van Gilder (6-1, 180, senior), Blacksburg- led the team with 132 tackles with six for loss and three fumble recoveries.
Defensive back, Zach Sledd (6-1, 160, senior), Eastern Montgomery- 27 .5 tackles with five interceptions.
Defensive back: Cameron Chestnut (6-1, 168, senior), Auburn- 80 tackles.
Defensive back: Jaylin Taylor (6-0, 160, junior), Radford- 56 tackles with an interception.
Defensive back: Brian Mitchell (5-9, 160, sophomore), Blacksburg- 52 tackles for the youngster who has a bright future for the Bruins.
Punt returner: Chris Carter, Radford- four returns for 80 yards.
Punter: Zach Sledd, Eastern Montgomery- 30 punts for 947 yards with three inside the 20-yard line.
Defensive specialist: Trevor Brown (5-7, 216, senior), Eastern Montgomery- 50 tackles, two sacks in only six games.
Co-defensive players of the year: Josh Van Gilder, Blacksburg; and Matson Stanley, Christiansburg.
Defensive lineman of the year: Gideon Driscoll, Blacksburg.
