Radford High School was the overall winner in this week’s swim meet at the Christiansburg Aquatics Center. The Radford boys downed Northside 72-19 and Christiansburg 73-29. The host-Blue Demons picked up a 51-32 win over Northside.
On the girls’ side of the pool, Radford downed Northside 75-28 and Christiansburg 58-44. The Lady Blue Demons beat Northside 52-46.
Radford’s boys’ 200-Yard Medley Relay team of Nicholas Harvey, Chet Kleppin, Joe Kennedy and William Mitchell took first over Christiansburg, who won the girls event with a team of Audrey Jones, Rickey Horton, Madeline Sarver and Paige Showalter.
Andrew Rehak picked up a second for Radford in the boys’ 200-Yard Freestyle with Christiansburg’s Lane Zuchowski in tow. Christiansburg’s Audrey Jones was first to touch the side of the pool in the girls’ 200-Yard Freestyle.
Christiansburg’s Reece Showalter led three Bobcats, Michael Wolhford, Nate Cosmato and Nicholas Clark to the finish of the boys’ 200-Yard IM. Olivia Dunning was the top female swimmer in the same event. Teammate McKenzie Pappas was third, shortly behind Christiansburg’s Madeline Sarver.
Radford was represented well in the 50-Yard Freestyle with Joe Kennedy taking the boys event, and Abbey Vinson and Anna Klepping 2-3 for the girls. Christiansburg’s Horton claimed another first in the event.
Kennedy took the boys’ 100-Yard Butterfly teammates, William Mitchell and William Wohlford in second and third.
Sarver gave Christiansburg the top spot in the girls’ 100-Yard Butterfly.
Harvey, Showalter, Mitchell and Kleppin then gave Radford four of the top five spots in the 100-Yard Freestyle. Christiansburg’s Reece Showalter was second.
Radford also took the top four positions on the girls’ side of the pool with Logan Graham, Katie Vaughan, Rachel Cullop and Tess Ritchey.
Horton and Paige Showalter gave the host-team firs t and third in the 500-Yard Freestyle as they squeezed two Bobcat swimmers, Graham and Riley Bloomer in second and fourth.
Harvey and Andrew Rehak would then give Radford the top spots in the boys’ 100-Yard Backstroke, while Christiansburg’s Lane Zuchowski finished third.
Aubrey Jones would give Christiansburg first in the girls’ event with Radford’s Kathryn Vinson, Katie Vaughn and Keely Carrow in tow.
Kleppin picked up a second in the boys’ 100-Yard breastroke with teammates, Iavan Piekhanov, Devin Cullup and William Wohlford, 3, 4, 5.
Radford would also take first and second in the girl’s 100-Yard breastroke with Olivia Dunning and Anna Kleppin to finish out the night.
