Looking back on the outcomes from the event, on Saturday Nov. 11, around 70 individuals gathered on Virginia Tech’s Drillfield for the Donut Dash 5k. The event had 43 runners check in, and over 25 volunteers.
During the race, participants would make three laps (each 1 km) around the Drillfield course, eat as many donuts as they wanted, and then run the last two laps to close out the race. Each donut eaten reduced their final time by 45 seconds.
The first person across the finish line was Anderson Norton, with a raw time of 20:49. After eating one donut, he had a final adjusted time of 20:04, making him the overall winner for the event.
Stephanie Arnold won the Women’s 18-21 division for the second year in a row, with an adjusted time of 24:33, consuming two donuts.
In the Men’s 18-21 division, Virginia Tech freshman Jack Staples beat out the competition with a final time of 21:28.
Most competitors went for raw speed this year, consuming 1.3 donuts per runner on average. This year’s max donut count was five donuts eaten by Tyler White.
The event served as a fundraiser for the NLCF Honduras team, travelling to Danlí, Honduras in March 2018. After everything was said and done, the love of running and sweets helped raise $1062.85 for the team.
