A member of this year’s Christiansburg High School football team has announced plans to continue his playing career this fall at Southern Virginia University (SVU). Nathan Gaffney (5-8, 163) played both defensive back and receiver for Christiansburg this past season.
“The coaching staff at SVU is great. They really care for the players in academic and football ways,” said Gaffney. “When I went on my official visit, SVU felt like a home away from home.”
The Blue Demons finished 0-10 this season, and Gaffney admitted it was a learning experience especially in a never give up attitude type of way. He called himself a “coachable player” that is looking to always improve in the game of football.
His ultimate goal is to continue to be a team player and help turn the SVU program in the right direction.
SVU is a Division III athletic program in Buena Vista. The football team finished 4-6 this past season.
As of right now, Gaffney is undecided on a major. At SVU, he hopes to play slot and maybe defensive back.
