The 100+ Women Who Care is a group of women who each pledge to contribute $100 every quarter, pooling the contributions, and then voting to choose an NRV non-profit to support.
At the last meeting, the Blacksburg Refugee Partnership received the most votes and accepted a cash donation of more than $15,000.
“We are thrilled to be the beneficiary this quarter and will use the money wisely,” Molly McClintock, 100+ Women Who Care member who presented on behalf of the BRP said.
“There is a strength and perseverance in the families that is inspiring and uplifting. And there is a strength and commitment among our volunteers and donors that is similarly inspiring and uplifting. This partnership is a great example of how welcoming and caring our community is. We thank all of you for your contributions!” Scott Bailey, another BRP volunteer said.
The Blacksburg Refugee Partnership is serving six families: nine adults and 20 children.
“These families are approaching their one-year anniversary in the U.S. and are thriving, but challenges remain, and volunteers are invited to visit the BRP Facebook page or website at www.blacksburgrefugeepartnership.org/ to get involved,” Sarah Black, 100+ Women Who Care NRV spokesperson said.
The 100+ Women Who Care NRV express their gratitude to The Secular Society, a Virginia not-for-profit known for “advancing the interests of women and the arts in Virginia and beyond” that contributed $5,000 of the $15,000 total raised for the Blacksburg Refugee Partnership.
All interested women are invited to join the 100+ WWC to support local not-for-profits that make the New River Valley a better place to live. The group’s membership area includes the counties of Montgomery, Giles, Pulaski, Floyd and the City of Radford.
The 100+ WWC NRV meets quarterly on the third Tuesday of January, April, July, and October. Committed members donate $100 every quarter, and each meeting lasts no more than one hour.
