International Women’s Mornings
Tuesdays, 9:30-11:30 a.m.
Y Center Arts & Crafts Room
1000 N. Main Street, Blacksburg
All women are welcome to join us at this weekly gathering of women from all over the world (including the USA). Each morning is focused on friendship, information, education, support, and service.
We gather for tea, coffee, and snacks along with learning a new craft, trying a recipe together, taking a field trip, or celebrating a holiday from various cultures.
This week, January, 16, we will be celebrating birthdays around the world! Bring a story or picture or song about how you celebrate birthdays.
You can find the weekly schedule online at https://internationalwomensmorning.weebly.com/. Please contact Jenny Schwanke at jenny@vtymca.org for more information or if you have questions.
International Moms’ Morning
Thursday, January 18, 9:30- 11:30 a.m.
Y Center Arts & Crafts Room
1000 N. Main Street, Blacksburg
International moms of young children are invited to the Y’s newest event: International Moms’ Morning!
The purpose of this is to connect international ladies who are also moms with each other and the local community.
Some time will be devoted to visiting and playing with the children, and then there will be an opportunity to share challenges and successes and troubleshoot together, followed by a guest speaker from the Blacksburg area to highlight a child-focused area. All are welcome, and please invite your friends!
Hale YMCA Community Garden
The Hale YMCA Community Garden will soon be turning over soil for its ninth year! Held on YMCA Board Member Arlean Hale Lambert’s beautiful 15 acre property, the garden hosts about 70 famiies or individuals and offers in-ground plots, raised beds, and common grounds planted in fruit trees, asparagus, and berries (among other perennials).
Returning gardeners are signing up in January and, by mid-February, any available spaces will be opened to the already-burgeoning waiting list.
Even though the waiting list is long, having a plot is just one of the many ways to be part of the garden. There are monthy gardener potlucks (open to the public!) from May to September, and various workdays and workshops that everyone in the community is welcome to attend.
To keep up with events at the garden, “Like” our Facebook page and/or visit the garden webpage.
Please contact Jenny Schwanke at jenny@vtymca.org for more information or if you have any questions.
