The New River Stage will be hosting auditions for the company’s spring shows Hillbilly Women and Treasure Island today from 5-7 p.m. at the Village Center at Warm Hearth Village (2387 Warm Hearth Drive, Blacksburg).
The theater troop is seeking anyone ages 10 and up, and musicians, according to a press release. There is need for sound, lighting, house, set building and other technical help as well.
“You do not need to come prepared with a monologue. Come ready to read scenes from the show, play theater games and have a great time,” the release said.
Auditions are cattle-call style and everyone will get a chance to read. “Hillbilly Women” is an all female, adult and teen cast though male musicians and singers may audition. “Treasure Island” is a mixed cast of men, women, teens and a few children in the ensemble.
New River Stage will be presenting two spring shows:
Hillbilly Women
Hillbilly Women is a staged reading mixed with music. It is a salute to the hard working women of Appalachia. Show dates will be Feb. 24-25.
They need seven women, a few singers, and a bunch of musicians. If you’re a musician and cannot make auditions but would still like to be involved, please contact AJ Moose.
Treasure Island
Treasure Island needs actors from age 10-106. This show will utilize 20-30 actors and a mixed cast of men, women, teens, and a few children in the ensemble.
They will have female pirates and the lead character of Jim in this story is a teenage female (or a woman who can play a teenager). Show dates are April 28-29 and May 5-6. This is a non-singing show.
