The Christiansburg Aquatics Center played host to three west regional swim meets on Tuesday with Blacksburg High School taking the girls 4D regional title. The Blacksburg boys’ team finished second behind Jefferson Forest.
Meanwhile in 3D West action, host-Christiansburg finished fourth in girls’ action and sixth in boys’ competition.
The Lady Bruins tallied 170 points in 4D with E.C Glass second at 85 points and Salem third with 81 points. Jefferson Forest finished with 157 points for the boys with the Bruins taking 85 points. Salem was third on the boys’ side of the pool.
Cave Spring claimed the girls’ title with 123 points. Lord Botetourt was second with 107, Hidden Valley third with 86 and Christiansburg fourth with 75 points.
Hidden Valley turned the tide in boys’ action with 219 points to outdistance Lord Botetourt and Cave Spring’s 60. Abingdon finished fourth with 50 points. Christiansburg tallied 35 points in the event.
Christiansburg’s Caleb Hatcher and Evan Matthis were 1-2 in the boys’ 3D 1-meter dive event.
Megan Cummins did pick up a third place in 3D girls’ 100-yard butterfly action, while Madeline Sarver of Christiansburg was third in the girls’ 100-yard freestyle. Leah Greiner took second for the Blue Demons in the girls’ 500-yard freestyle.
The Christiansburg girls’ 400-yard freestyle relay brought home the team’s only gold at a time of 4:09.93 ahead of second place Abingdon. The relay group included Cummins, Greiner, Sarver and Rickey Horton, who also finished fourth in the 200-yard freestyle individual event to qualify for the state meet.
Blacksburg started the 4D event with second place finishes in both the boys and girls 200-yard medley relay.
Laura Hodge would then win the girls’ 200-yard freestyle to set the win in motion. Julie Anderson and Holly Moneyhun would then finish 2-4 in the girls’ 200-yard IM.
On the boys’ side of the pool, the Bruins would not be overshadowed as Sam Sterling and Leo Yang claimed second and third in the 50-yard freestyle.
Anna Sheng then brought home a third in the girls’ 50-yard freestyle as the Lady Bruins extended their lead in 4D.
Blacksburg would claim the top spot in the boys’ 1-meter diving with Abram Scott. The Lady Bruins would then finish 1-6 in the girls’ 1-meter dive event. Lindsey Miller was first and McKenzie Turman second and Heidi Treser third.
Anderson would push the margin to almost double with a second in the girls’ 100-yard butterfly. Sheng was second in the girls’ 100-yard freestyle. The region title was never in doubt as the Bruins took the top spot in the girls’ 200-yard freestyle and 400-yard freestyle relays.
