The February General Body meeting of the Montgomery County-Radford City-Floyd County branch of the NAACP will be held Sunday, Feb. 25 at 3:30 p.m. at the newly renovated Christiansburg Community Center (570 High St. NE) in Christiansburg beside the Schaeffer Memorial Baptist Church.
The afternoon’s CREDO presentation will be on Mental Health services. “CREDO” stands for Civil Rights Educational Developmental Opportunities.
“We use this time during each meeting to be introduced to and learn about issues, organizations and people that tie into one of our key issues,” Karen Jones, the CREDO coordinator and political action chair of the chapter, said.
The Christiansburg Community Center held an open house in December to celebrate the renovation of this 19th century building important for its history and its architectural interest and beauty.
Accompanying the renovation, the center will be renamed the “Old Hill School Community Center.” The formal announcement will be made in the coming weeks.
“[The new name] will honor our heritage as the original location for Christiansburg Institute before the purchase of land for the campus on Scattergood,” Jones said. Then later used as an elementary school until the building of Friends Elementary School.”
As always, all are welcome to the NAACP meetings.
