In the Olympics, everyone is aware of who the gold medal winners are in each event. But little is said about the logistical portion of the Olympics, the work that is done to make the event successful.
That can also be said about the management of towns and cities. So much work is done to make each community a good place to live.
Recently the Town of Christiansburg’s public relations department published a brochure concerning some statist about Christiansburg.
Listed below are some of the town’s accomplishments during the past fiscal year (2016-17). The town does this every year, Olympics or not.
- Treated 445 roads during winter weather
- The fire department responded 906 times, the rescue squad answered 4,539 calls
- Distributed 2.5 million gallons of drinking water daily
- The aquatic and recreation centers had 126,000 visitors
- Police department responded to 29,241 calls
- Processed 2.7 million gallons of sewage daily, and 8,000 tons of solid waste annually
Maybe we are giving the medals to the wrong people. If you are interested in additional information concerning the town, contact the public relations department.
Gun control, again
It has happened again, another mass shooting. Everyone feels the pain of the 17 individuals who were murder in Parkland Florida.
People are remorseful about the terrible tragedy, but nothing happens to improve the situation.
When are the citizens of this country going to demand better gun control, including the elimination of automatic weapons and sub-machine guns from the retail market?
When is the public going to demand local, state and federal politicians to support more and better gun control?
Maybe I am wrong, maybe people in the long run are not that concerned about gun control. If you have a comment, email me. I will make sure someone reads it.
