Beliveau Estate Winery in Blacksburg has received a Concordance gold medal in the 2017 ‘Wines of the South’ competition for its “Discovery” 2015, a sweet white wine made from estate-grown Niagara grapes.
A Concordance gold medal is awarded when all judges unanimously rank a wine as a gold scoring wine.
Two Virginia wines were in the top ten. “Discovery” 2015 was also named the competition’s “Best of White” wine and “Best of Virginia Fruit” wine.
The ‘Wines of the South’ competition annually invites wineries of 14 southern states to submit wine for judging in their October competition.
In the 2018 Virginia ‘Governor’s Cup’ competition, Beliveau Estate received three silver medals for “Fireside Chat” a 2015 Cabernet Franc, “Trailblazer” a 2015 Merlot, and “Acapella” a 2017 red blend.
In the competition, over forty world-class judges sampled just over 440 of the best Virginia Wines from 100 Virginia Wineries.
The Virginia Governors Cup is “one of the most stringent competitions in the United States” the Virginia Wine marketing office said.
