Radford men’s basketball head coach Mike Jones has been named the Big South Coach of the Year, the conference office announced Monday afternoon.
Picked to finish seventh in the Big South’s preseason poll, Jones led the Highlanders to a 12-6 record in conference play to secure the No. 2 seed in the 2018 Big South Championship. The team finished 19-12 overall, the most wins a Radford team has accumulated since the 2014-15 campaign.
He becomes the fourth Radford head coach ever to be named Big South Coach of the Year; joining Oliver Purnell (1990-91), Ron Bradley (1991-92) and Brad Greenberg (2008-09).
Now in his seventh season at Radford, Jones became the third head coach in program history to tally 100 wins when the Highlanders topped UC Davis to earn the 2017 Continental Tire Las Vegas Classic title.
Jones, a native of Silver Spring, Md., sits at 112 career wins heading into the Big South Championship.
